Local PTAS for Independent Set and Vertex Cover in Location Aware Unit Disk Graphs
We present the first local approximation schemes for maximum independent set and minimum vertex cover in unit disk graphs. In the graph model we assume that each node knows its geographic coordinates in the plane (location aware nodes). Our algorithms are local in the sense that the status of each node v (whether or not v is in the computed set) depends only on the vertices which are a constant...
متن کاملA PTAS for the Weighted Unit Disk Cover Problem
We are given a set of weighted unit disks and a set of points in Euclidean plane. The minimum weight unit disk cover (WUDC) problem asks for a subset of disks of minimum total weight that covers all given points. WUDC is one of the geometric set cover problems, which have been studied extensively for the past two decades (for many different geometric range spaces, such as (unit) disks, halfspac...
متن کاملMinimum clique partition in unit disk graphs
The minimum clique partition (MCP) problem is that of partitioning the vertex set of a given graph into a minimum number of cliques. Given n points in the plane, the corresponding unit disk graph (UDG) has these points as vertices, and edges connecting points at distance at most 1. MCP in unit disk graphs is known to be NP-hard and several constant factor approximations are known, including a r...
متن کاملComplexity and Approximation Results for the Connected Vertex Cover Problem
We study a variation of the vertex cover problem where it is required that the graph induced by the vertex cover is connected. We prove that this problem is polynomial in chordal graphs, has a PTAS in planar graphs, is APX-hard in bipartite graphs and is 5/3-approximable in any class of graphs where the vertex cover problem is polynomial (in particular in bipartite graphs).
متن کاملBidimensionality and geometric graphs
Bidimensionality theory was introduced by Demaine et al. [JACM 2005 ] as a framework to obtain algorithmic results for hard problems on minor closed graph classes. The theory has been sucessfully applied to yield subexponential time parameterized algorithms, EPTASs and linear kernels for many problems on families of graphs excluding a fixed graph H as a minor. In this paper we use several of th...
